Services
MMS has a focus on using microorganisms as monitoring tools for measuring environmental health and as remediation solutions through building microbial communities.
Identifying potential environmental problems
Microorganisms respond rapidly to environmental disturbances and are useful indicators of ecosystem change. Cost savings can result through the early diagnosis and treatment of environmental problems via the better management of microbes.
MMS undertakes:
- monitoring programs and environmental health assessments of soil and water to provide objective information to support environmental decisions, and
- fungal fruiting body and mycorrhizal surveys which can provide an important link between animal and plant surveys.
We can assess soil and water samples sent to our laboratory. Please contact MMS for further details and sampling protocols.
Providing environmental solutions
MMS provides:
- innovative bioremediation solutions to restore and build the microbial communities that are required for the re-establishment of a self-sustaining vegetative cover on rehabilitating soils and for reducing soil erosion and improving dust control in the critical time before vegetation establishes, and
- microbial solutions to convert organic wastes generated through the activities of the agricultural, forest and food processing industries into valuable economic and environmental resources which can be of further value, especially in soil restoration activities.
