Surveys, monitoring and management of environmental microbes
Microbial Management Systems is an Australian laboratory that consults to the biotechnology and environmental sectors with a focus on microorganisms as monitoring tools for environmental health and as ecosystem remediation solutions through building microbial communities.
Microorganisms play a vital role in ecosystem health through their involvement in the decomposition of organic matter, nutrient cycling, symbioses with plants, soil formation, and in the suppression of diseases and pests in the environment. Microbes respond rapidly to environmental disturbances and are useful indicators of both positive and negative changes in ecosystems. The early diagnosis and treatment of environmental problems, particularly in soils, via the management of microbial communities can result in both environmental and economic benefits.
Our services include:
- microbial monitoring and environmental health assessments of soil and water from a microbial perspective to provide objective information to support environmental decisions,
- the development of innovative environmental solutions for soil management, the restoration and building of the microbial communities that are required for the re-establishment of a self-sustaining vegetative cover on rehabilitating soils, and for reducing soil erosion and improving dust control in the critical time before vegetation establishes, and
- bioremediation and waste management solutions using microorganisms.
